At the northern end of New Zealand ’s South Island , the geographical centre of New Zealand .

Fishing, horticulture, forestry, agriculture, tourism. Nelson the seafood capital of NZ – 100 fishing boats, 20 companies controlling over half the total national catch. Renowned as the home of NZ scallops. Main horticultural crop: apples. Main livestock farming: sheep and cattle.
