Setting, Access and Amenities
The property is located on the west bank of the Motueka River, ten minutes from the village of Tapawera. Access is by a no-exit road, which is sealed to a point some 600 metres beyond the farm, before continuing to serve isolated farmsteads in the Wangapeka and Baton valleys. This road forms the western boundary to the farm; the eastern boundary is marked by the natural, thickly-wooded berm of the Motueka River, forming an attractive backdrop with rolling hills beyond. Mountain views to NW, W and S, and unimpeded rural perspectives from house and deck along the valley to the North. The Motueka and Wangapeka rivers provide some of the best trout fishing in the South Island, and the opportunities for walking and tramping are limitless.
The area is zoned Rural 1, containing dairy and stock-raising farms, and also some soft fruit and hop production. There are friendly neighbours in a genuine rural environment, with a good sense of community.
Tapawera village has an area school, garage/service station, grocery store, dairy, hotel, two engineering workshop and repair facilities and stock yard. There is also a church, community and information centre and village hall. The Tapawera and Districts Community Council is active in providing services to residents throughout the surrounding area, and there are numerous clubs and societies catering for a wide range of interests. Daily postal services are provided to outlying homesteads by Rural Delivery, and the area is well served by goods and passenger transport services linking it with Richmond, Nelson, Motueka, the West Coast and Christchurch. Medical services are provided by the Wakefield Health Centre (25 minutes from the farm); Richmond 45 minutes, Nelson Airport 50 minutes, Nelson city centre 55 minutes. Tapawera is roughly equidistant from the Kahurangi, Nelson Lakes, Mount Richmond and Abel Tasman national parks, and within an hour's drive of each. To the east, and also within an hour's drive, are the important wineries of the Waimea plain and the Moutere hills.
